Thinkers, designers, and artists have historically neglected the sense of touch in detriment of other senses. Yet, the recent developments in haptic and gesture-based interfaces made the need for engagement with contemporary and historical aspects of media touch an urgent matter. Also, the current global outbreak of the Covid-19, where we are faced with the reality of avoiding touching each other and things, brings new strength to haptic technologies. Is it possible to simulate human touch? How can we reconnect with ourselves through technology? What is state of the art in this field? Those are some questions tacked in the talk by Ricardo O'Nascimento.
